Willamette Valley Vineyards
received approvals on all labels submitted to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) stating the resveratrol content and a brief description of the antioxidant. Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in the skins of grapes and is particularly high in Pinot Noirs grown in moist cool climates like Oregon and New York. This was a landmark decision by the TTB. Willamette Valley Vineyards, started shipping their ‘02 Vintage Pinot Noir and ‘04 Whole Cluster with the new labels in July. The Oregon legislature also approved WVV to put a ten cent bottle refund on its labels. WVV has always honored this bottle return policy, but now will be able to list it on the back label. WVV wines continue to show well in Magazines and at festivals. The ‘04 Pinot Gris has taken three golds this year and received write ups in the Oregonian, Seattle Times, and in the Wine Enthusiast Magazine, as one of the best summer whites! The ‘02 Pinot noir was recently featured in Peoples’ Your Diet magazine as one of their best picks and the ’04 Whole Cluster will appear in an upcoming article in Bon Appetite magazine in October. During the first week in July the winery made its final steps to switch to biofuel for their tractors and delivery vehicles. All the vineyards tractors and fleet will run off biofuel provided by SeQuential Biofuels and will fill up at an on-site pump, as well as card-lock stations up and down the I-5 corridor. The winery’s switch to the low-emissions fuel will be highlighted in the Alaska Airlines magazine starting in September. Call 503-588-9463 or visit www.wvv.com for more information.
Woodburn Company Stores
Two of America’s favorite pastimes - travel and shopping - came together when the Oregon Travel Information Council’s first Travel Plaza officially opened at Woodburn Company Stores on Tuesday, August 9th. The new Travel Plaza became the site for the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Travel Information Center and makes Woodburn a hub for regional tourism promotion. This is the first of the five new statewide plazas proposed by the Travel Information Council (TIC) slated to open during the 2005-2007 biennium. The plaza was strategically sited at Woodburn Company Stores, one of the state’s highest traffic points in the Willamette Valley. The project is the outcome of many years of collaboration between the TIC, Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce and Woodburn Company Stores. The outlet mall contributed 600-square foot space to the Travel Plaza project. A self-serve information kiosk installed within the Travel Plaza features local attractions and services, and provides space to accommodate advertising and brochures. Revenues generated from the sales of advertising on the kiosk display will help fund the development of future Travel Plazas on both public and private land. Cheryl Gribskov, Executive Director of (TIC) said “This new center will meet the needs of travelers in a high volume traffic area and serve as the region’s resource for information on Oregon attractions, events, state and national parks, recreational opportunities, lodging information and maps.” Call 503-981-1900 or visit www.woodburncompanystores.com.
