Arnaldo Cohen Closes Out Symphony Season in Salem


May 1, 2012 - On Tuesday, May 15 at 8pm Carlos Kalmar and the Oregon Symphony Orchestra will be joined on the Salem stage by legendary pianist Arnaldo Cohen as they close out the 2011-2012 season in Salem.

Cohen, who is no stranger to the Salem audience making his second stop in Salem this year, will performing one of the best known works in the piano world, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Often used in film and other popular culture it is one of the best known of Tchaikovsky’s works. When he last appeared with the symphony in Salem, Cohen wowed the audience with his interpretation of Liszt’s Piano Concerto. Known for his “blistering virtuosity” Cohen is sure to give the audience a performance that will leave them wanting more.

Also to be performed by the orchestra are Britten’s Four Sea Interludes and Passacaglia from Peter Grimes, Sibelius’ Symphony No. 7 and Dvorak’s Scherzo capriccioso.

The 2012 Oregon Symphony Karl Rashkes Music Educator of the Year Award will also be presented at the beginning of this concert.

At 7pm in Cone Chapel, Willamette University Music Department Chair Anita King will be our guest for Take Ten. King will be sharing information about the evening’s program during this informal, fun and free event.
