In a broad letter to stakeholders, Business Oregon's interim Director, Vince Porter, announced the state economic development agency's agenda for the 2016 Oregon Legislative Session:

"Today marks the start of the 2016 Legislature. In this short, five-week session, Business Oregon is working with lawmakers on economic development projects and policies from global trade to earthquake safety.

"Global trade: We'll submit our final report on the Trade & Logistics Initiative, an effort with our partners to help small businesses continue reaching global markets. The report should be available in mid-February.

"Earthquake safety: We're seeking a technical fix to help our Infrastructure division manage the $205 million Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program in 2015-17. In the first round, we received 107 applications seeking $123 million, more than double our $50 million availability.

"Oregon Innovation Plan: We're sharing our updated Oregon Innovation Plan with a House committee.

"Oregon Growth Board flexibility: We're also planning to testify on Rep. Tobias Read's bill to provide greater flexibility to the Oregon Growth Board in making investments that support Oregon schools.
UAVs and SOAR: We'll work with SOAR Oregon to share an update on their business plan to support Oregon's unmanned aerial vehicles industry and the state's test ranges in Pendleton, Warm Springs and Tillamook.

"New Business Oregon Commission Chair: Governor Kate Brown has nominated Kanth Gopalpur as our next commission chair and his confirmation hearing is scheduled for the February session. Since last spring, Kanth has served as our entrepreneur in residence. Erin Flynn, our outgoing chair, is becoming chair of the Oregon Innovation Council."
