An urban renewal feasibility study was presented to the Dundee, Oregon City Council in January, and voters will decide in May whether or not to change the city charter to clarify urban renewal processes create a Dundee urban renewal district. Proponents of the plan see this as an opportunity to jumpstart economic development in portions of the city. An urban renewal district would come with a sunset provision, which means the district would not be permanent. City Attorney Peter Watts has expressed concern over ensuring that state and local laws are not contradictory; in fact, voters will decide whether or not to remove legal ambiguity from the city charter in order to define urban renewal district limitations.
