Enterprise
for Employment and Education to Charlie Hopewell of Neilsen Manufacturing at SEDCOR’s 2005 Annual Honors Luncheon. Charlie Hopewell was honored for his commitment to workforce training and the partnerships he has built with private and public organizations to increase worker skills.
The Mary Pearmine award was created by the
Enterprise
in 2003 to increase employer awareness of workforce development issues and engage local businesses in investing in the development of their current and future workforces. This award recognizes individuals or organizations that actively invest in the development of a more highly skilled and capable workforce.
All of the nominees demonstrate a passion for improving the skills and prospects of others. They display both commitment and energy to enhancing workforce leadership and training.
“Workforce Development is an economic development issue, as well as a people issue,” stated Agnes Balassa, Director of the
Enterprise
for Employment and Education. “Skilled workers are a key part of the equation that helps companies locate and expand in our community.”
“Companies like Neilsen that invest in making local workers more highly skilled and resilient should be recognized for their efforts,” stated James F. Brown, President of the Enterprise Board and Owner of Brown and Dunton, a local staffing service. “They impact the lives of individual employees and create additional opportunities for employment through their pro-active efforts to move workers into more highly technical roles.”
This year 4 individuals were nominated for the award. The other nominees included:
- Bob Ottaway of Westview Products
- Dean Craig of Personnel Source
- Yolanda Ojeda of Rainsweet
“Initiatives like the
Enterprise
’s Mary Pearmine Award play an important part in promoting workforce training efforts that sustain the economic competitiveness of companies in the
Mid-Willamette
Valley
,” stated
Larry Glassock
, President of SEDCOR. “It is imperative that employees be trained in cutting edge technologies to assure the future economic health of our community.”
