SEDCOR President to Retire After 13 years

Salem, Oregon — Larry Glassock, President of the Strategic Economic Development Corporation (SEDCOR), announced today his retirement effective January 1, 2006. Glassock has served as President of SEDCOR, a regional economic development organization, since July, 1992.

Glassock said that during his tenure at SEDCOR he has experienced significant changes in the global, national and local economies. Glassock cited the following highlights over the past 13 years:

  • Being a pivotal player in the recruitment and retention of numerous companies to the SEDCOR geographic area of Marion and Polk County, yielding over $1 billion in new investment and 4000 jobs.
  • Creation of the first manufacturing retention and expansion effort in the State of Oregon.
  • Expansion of SEDCOR to be the largest private/public Economic Development organization in the State of Oregon.
  • Initiation of the Mill Creek Industrial Park, a 650 acre site, located in Southeast Salem. Marketing efforts for the Park, which expects a total investment of over $400 million and 3000 jobs, are now underway.
  • Stewarding SEDCOR through turbulent economic and political times.

On his leaving SEDCOR, Glassock said “the world of economic development is changing as the world economy is changing. It is time now for a change in leadership for SEDCOR.” Glassock will continue to be involved with SEDCOR until a new President is selected.

Liz Goulard, SEDCOR Chair, said that Larry had built a strong organization with an exceptional staff. She expressed confidence that the search committee will find an individual with Larry’s knowledge and passion for economic development and SEDCOR to lead the organization. She is appreciative of Larry’s flexibility and willingness to work with SEDCOR during the transition period.

SEDCOR’s mission is to enhance and diversify the economy of the Mid-Willamette Valley, by supporting and enhancing the performance of existing businesses and recruiting new businesses to Marion and Polk County. SEDCOR focuses its efforts on the manufacturing, distribution and information processing employment sectors.
