From SEDCOR to SEDCOR . . . The Economic Development Organization Announces a Name Change

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 1, 2003

SEDCOR has officially changed its name, effective July 1, 2003. Instead of Salem Economic Development Corporation, SEDCOR is now Strategic Economic Development Corporation of the Mid-Willamette Valley.

What's in a name?

As SEDCOR previously was the acronym for Salem Economic Development Corporation, the general perception has been that SEDCOR was closely affiliated with Salem only. This has long been a bone of contention with communities outside of Salem.

In fact, SEDCOR's mission always has been to enhance and diversify the economy of the Mid-Willamette Valley by supporting and enhancing the performance of existing businesses and recruiting new businesses to all of Marion and Polk Counties. The use of Salem in SEDCOR's name did not clearly reflect the organization's true geographic territory or full regional focus, let alone its mission.

SEDCOR is completely focused on the business opportunities ahead for Marion and Polk Counties. There is no question now of what SEDCOR really is and what areas SEDCOR truly serves.
