The first Overview session will start at 9:00 am, with registration from 8:30 to 9:00 am. If you plan to participate, please RSVP and register so lunch can be ordered.

Mt. Angel Breaks Ground for New Community Center

Mount Angel, OR – Lori Pavlicek, president, Mt. Angel Community Foundation, in partnership with Oktoberfest Inc., Mt. Angel Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Mt. Angel, with support from local communities held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Mt. Angel Community Center on Wednesday, March 2nd. Civic, church, non-profit groups and residents in Mt. Angel and other nearby communities will use the new center for activities and events. It will also serve as the community’s emergency facility in times of need. The new building will replace the existing metal “barn” structure built around 1972, which lacked many design features needed for its current uses by the community. Demolition is complete and construction will start soon.

Rich Duncan Construction, Inc. is the general contractor on the project. Grants and contributions from many local businesses and individuals have made building this new community center possible. Donations are still needed to complete funding for the project.

The SEDCOR Construction Alliance will set up training for area high school students in a modular building donated by Modern Building Systems, Inc.

“Fight Hunger, Feed Hope” Rotary Drive Launched March 2, 2011

Thirteen Rotary Clubs throughout Marion and Polk counties today launched the 22nd annual Rotary Workplace Food Drive. Themed “Fight Hunger, Feed Hope,” the drive aims to collect $90,000 and 90,000 pounds of food to benefit Marion-Polk Food Share and its 95 partner agencies by March 31. Also noted are 22 businesses and organizations that contributed to the success of the 2010 drive.

“This drive is really important to us,” said MPFS President Ron Hays. “Our food stocks are challenged because some sources are diminishing. That has us a little worried. Our biggest need right now is for tuna, peanut butter and canned fruit.”

To get involved, visit www.RotaryDrive.org or call Denise Lyons at 503-581-3855, ext. 308.
