Made in the Mid-Willamette Valley

Award of Excellence for Economic Development
Received from the Oregon Economic Development Association

SEDCOR’s Made in the Mid-Willamette marketing promotion received honors from the Oregon Economic Development Association at their recent Fall Conference in Newport. Susan Appleby, Communications Manager at SEDCOR accepted the award.

This marketing promotion is a collaborative partnership between SEDCOR and the Statesman Journal, as well as the Polk County Itemizer (for members in Polk County). It provides a unique promotional opportunity for SEDCOR members each Sunday in the Inside Business section of the Statesman Journal and monthly in the Polk County Itemizer. It is ongoing and over 60 members have been featured since the promotion began in June 2010.

SEDCOR is always looking for ways to add value for our members and local industry. This partnership allows exposure for our members to generate additional business opportunities, as well as promote our mission of enhancing the economy of the Mid-Willamette Valley. It also provides access for local residents and businesses to read about all the different types of industries and companies in the area and the products and services they offer. It provides an opportunity for those who want to Buy Local, to do just that.

Thanks goes to Bill Church from the Statesman Journal and Nancy Adams from the Polk County Itemizer Observer for providing space in their publications. A big thanks also goes to the SEDCOR members who have participated. For more information call 503-584-7303 or visit www.sedcor.com.

All SEDCOR members are invited to have your business featured in the Statesman Journal’s Sunday Inside Business Section. In addition, Polk County businesses are also being promoted in the Polk County Itemizer-Observer.

Meriting with the Experts

Presented by the Cascade Council of the Boy Scouts of America

The Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) provides services and youth-development programs to nearly 34,000 youth and 13,000 volunteers in 18 counties of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington states. For one hundred years, Boy Scouts of America has provided programs with a singular mission of preparing young people for adulthood, and to be responsible citizens.

Meriting with the Experts is a program offering the chance for Boy Scouts, young men ages 12-18, to work with key corporate, business, and community leaders to stimulate interest in merit badges.

Merit badges are awards earned by youth members of the BSA, based on activities within an area of study by completing a list of requirements. The purpose of the merit badge program is to allow Scouts to examine subjects to determine if they would like to further pursue them as a career or avocation. There are more than 100 merit badges in the BSA merit badge program.

Scouts meet with counselors or “Experts” who have knowledge in the merit badge subjects and are interested in helping. The program also introduces Scouts to the life skills of contacting an adult they hadn’t met before and then demonstrating their skills, similar to a job or college interview. Sponsoring organizations will receive special opportunities to share specifics about their company directly with the Scouts, perhaps leading to future employees.

Would your company like a chance to work with eager young men and share expert advice about your industry while helping Scouts earn merit badges? Imagine matching your business with 500–1000 Scouts at one of several Meriting with the Experts events throughout the year!

If your company is interested in participating in or getting more information about a Meriting with the Experts event please contact Jeff Aradine, Council Program Director, at 503-225-5767 or [email].
