This week, after numerous testimonies for and against the proposal, the House Business and Labor Committee approved a bill to increase the minimum wage in Oregon. If it passes the House, Senate Bill 1532 raises the minimum wage for the entire state of Oregon over the course of six years. The raise will be implemented in waves and divides the state into three tiers based on population. In June, the first wave will increase the first two tiers’ minimum wage to $9.75 and the third tier to $9.50. By the end of year six, the Portland-area minimum wage will be $14.75.
